We have a small committee elected each year at our AGM who our involved in running the club and supporting the club's members to achieve their running goals. The current committee members are: Liz Tideswell (Chair/Press/Website), Liz Stevenson (Secretary/Press), Marion McDonald (Treasurer), Jo Picken (Assistant Treasurer), Mandy Swift and Jaki Chambers (Membership), Juliet James (Races), Lindsey Pooley (Social), Louise Morris (Newsletter), Sue Rushton (Kit Sales), Kate Geary (Results), Ruth Parkes (Attendance) and Julie Spencer (Support).
Our committee members are sharing stories of how they started running and what it's like to be a Potters Trotter: Liz Tideswell (Chair) began running in 2011 by following the Couch to 5k programme. She joined the club soon after and the combination of exercise and friendship kept her engaged and involved. Her proudest moment to date as a Potters Trotter was completing the Manchester Marathon in 2013 being supported and cheered on by her club mates. Liz is also Event Director at Hanley parkrun. Liz Stevenson (Club Secretary) began running in 2008. She went from an overweight beginner to running her first marathon within 13 months and has never looked back since. Her proudest moments involve seeing ladies join Potters Trotters as complete beginners and going on to achieve so much. Marion McDonald (Treasurer) joined Potters Trotters in 2011 and her proudest moment was seeing the pride reflected in her family's faces, when she completed the Potters ' Arf in 2014 and raised over £600 for a charity close to their hearts. She could not have done this without the help of her fellow runners from Potters Trotters. Jo Picken (Assistant Treasurer) started running in 2008 with Potters Trotters, after signing up for the Donna Louise 10k. Since then she has improved my running, met lots of lovely ladies and had her biggest achievement in 2012 completing the London marathon in sub 3.40. This was only possible through hard work and the support of the club. She always feels better after running and enjoys the club environment and wants to help keep the pink ladies running. Mandy Swift (Membership) needed a way of getting out, getting fit, making new friends and making her feel better about herself following her divorce. She achieved all of these things and more when she joined the club back in 2008, when it was part of Womens Running Network. Before joining the club, Mandy could not run 1 mile but during her time with the club she has built up steadily from running a relay section of the Potters Arf to running 6 marathons, to date. From road races to the icy cold waters of Trentham Lake during a February Hell in the Middle, she is certain she would not have achieved this without the support and guidance of her club mates. Kate Geary (Races): After a passing comment of 'I wouldn't mind trying to run a half marathon at some point in my life' in front of family members that run, Kate swiftly found herself signed up to run one about 6 months later, having never really run before in her life and not able to complete a mile when she first started training. After accomplishing this challenge, she struggled maintaining running as a part of her life & joined the club around 4 months later. She has now completed numerous half’s and even a couple of full marathons. More stories to follow. |
